Witch Branch?
Witch branch is which branch, the question asked before nearly every git command, spelled for October. For most English speakers the two words sound identical, so the pun only shows up in writing. Git has answered the question several ways over the years: git branch lists every branch and marks the current one with an asterisk, git status opens with it, and since version 2.22 in 2019 git branch --show-current prints the name and nothing else.
It is the question every developer asks several times a day, usually right after merging into the wrong place. It lands with anyone who has typed git branch to find out where they are, or maintained a repository where branch names outnumber contributors. Halloween supplies the witch; version control supplies the confusion.
