It's in the backlog is how a software team says no without saying no. In Scrum the product backlog is the ordered list of everything the product might one day need, and only what sits near the top gets pulled into a sprint. Everything below stays where it was put, technically alive and practically forgotten, which is why the phrase works as a promise and a dismissal at the same time.
Developers say it to the stakeholder with a brilliant idea, product owners say it to the sales team, and anyone who has scrolled to the bottom of a Jira backlog knows what it means. Feature requests go there to hibernate, and prioritised for next sprint is a forecast about as reliable as a weather report for next month. The shirt is the diplomatic answer, worn in advance.
