What a thoughtful question is the compliment that arrives before the answer. People learned it as a way to buy a second at the end of a talk, and AI assistants turned it into a preamble, praising the question before any of the answer exists. It became common enough that Anthropic's published system prompt for Claude tells the model not to open by calling a question good, great or fascinating, and to skip the flattery.
People who prompt language models for a living hear the line a dozen times a day and have started flinching at it in meetings too. A compliment handed out before any thinking has happened carries about as much information as a loading spinner.
