Too many dependencies is the verdict of anyone who has opened node_modules, the folder where npm installs every package a JavaScript project needs and every package those packages need. The old joke says node_modules is the heaviest object in the universe, and there is a published package called is-even that depends on another called is-odd.
For developers who audit every install and watch the dependency tree grow anyway. There is a joke here about weight and a serious point underneath it about attack surface, audit noise and the number of maintainers you now implicitly trust. It suits developers who prefer their jokes dry and their bundle smaller.
