The authorized penetration test was scheduled, scoped, and signed off by the CISO, the legal team, and the platform owner. The social engineering component was explicitly included in the statement of work. The phishing email that looked indistinguishable from IT support was a deliverable, not a crime. The credentials obtained via that email were used to demonstrate access only to the agreed-upon systems. The report is forty-two pages.
