May Stack Overflow be with you puts the Q&A site in the place of the Force in the Star Wars blessing. Jeff Atwood and Joel Spolsky launched Stack Overflow in 2008, named after the error a program hits when its call stack runs out of room, and for most of the years since it has been where an error message goes to find its answer. In 2021 the site measured how its pages are used and found that one in four visitors to a question copies something within five minutes of arriving.
For programmers who know that an answer from 2011 can be more reliable than the official docs, and that copy-paste is a development strategy as long as someone reads the code first. The same study found that just over half of all copies came from answers that were never accepted, which says something about how developers read a thread. Worn to work, the t-shirt is a blessing for a colleague about to search an error message for the first time.
