Dark Mode Because Light Attracts Bugs
Dark mode, because light attracts bugs, works on both kinds of bug at once: insects gather around anything bright, and software bugs are why a developer is still at the screen after dark. The two meanings meet in the story usually told about the word. In 1947 Grace Hopper's team on the Harvard Mark II found a moth trapped in a relay and taped it into the logbook as the first actual case of bug being found, a joke that only worked because engineers had called faults bugs since Thomas Edison's day.
For programmers who use dark themes religiously and can justify it with this logic. It settles the editor theme argument on entomological grounds, the one ground the other side never thought to defend. Whether dark mode has ever kept a bug out of production is a separate question.
