Back-end from the dead is back from the dead with a server attached: the horror-film return, applied to the part of an application nobody sees. Backend systems already speak the language, with zombie processes that have exited but stay in the process table until their parent collects the exit status, and daemons running unseen in the background. Decommissioning a service takes a meeting; getting it to stay down is a separate project.
For backend engineers who have been paged to revive a service that was officially retired two quarters ago. Legacy systems get decommissioned in meetings and resurrected in incidents, and Halloween only makes the necromancy official. It suits the engineer whose systems refuse to stay dead and who has, reluctantly, made peace with that.
